And that’s not the only Northern Highway fatality to report. On Friday night, 28 year old taxi driver Elsner Manzanilla, killed a pedestrian just outside Corozal Town on the Santa Rita Road – which is that stretch of the highway that goes to Chetumal. Manzanilla was driving near Paraiso Village when he says a man rode out into the road on a bicycle. Manzanilla couldn’t stop and ran him over. The man – whose identity was not known at the time died on the spot.

Police report that he has been identified as Francisco Garcia Villanueva, 42 years old a Salvadorian laborer of Paraiso Village.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Garcia Villanueva rode his bicycle out of a feeder road unto the highway without stopping. Still, Manzanilla was charged for causing death by careless conduct today because circumstantial indications are that he was travelling above 25 miles an hour within town limits.
