A 21 year old fisherman killed himself in San Estevan on Sunday morning. At 5:45 am – the family of 21 year old Jesus Vallesilla found him hanging from the branch of a breadfruit tree with an electrical wire tired around his neck. His father Santiago Vallesilla told us that a broken heart and too much alcohol was to blame.

Santiago Vallesilla, Father
“I think he was so drunk and he did it by himself. I don’t suspect someone did it.

This thing that happened, I think he did it by himself. He is just 22 years old and I think at that age they don’t have sufficient experience that they could afford a little problem like that. It was a over a girl and the girl probably didn’t give him a good word and that is why he hung himself.

I can’t explain myself. Something happened and I can’t believe it. Why he did that? He wasn’t supposed to do it because we are poor people and we don’t have the money to take this body from here and take it to Orange Walk and take it home again. My wife she got really upset and nerves caught her and she is in the hospital in Orange Walk.”

Keith Swift,
Was there anything bothering him?

Santiago Vallesilla,
“No, he just came last week from a trip. He is a fisherman, he was working. He had a lot of friends. He didn’t have no enemy or nothing to say that somebody did him this and it in front of the house. The way how I see it, he did it by himself.”

The family needs help with burial expenses. Anyone able to help can contact the family at 623-2662.
