A Belizean man was killed in a traffic accident in Mexico on Tuesday night. 35 year old Reth Reyes was in Campeche Mexico heading home when he got into the accident and died. His family doesn’t suspect foul play but they are angry tonight because Mexican authorities left the body to rot in the car. So instead of bringing home a body – today his family members came home with ashes. Juanita Lopez and Grace Flowers told us why they are so upset.
Juanita Lopez, Sister
“What we want to know is why that body was left out there from either late Tuesday night or earlier Wednesday morning until yesterday in the sun because then that is another human being and we have relations with Mexico and we think it is very unfair because he has a lot of loved ones. His family came in from the States and we had to have the body cremated because when they tried to bring back home the body last night they couldn’t. That body was out there like that and if it was a Mexican in our country I think they would have been assisted in a different way. We wouldn’t have left them out there, they would have been in the morgue until somebody came to claim that body.”
Grace Flowers, Sister
“The man done dead, we done accept it and they still turn around and rob him of everything he had – that is what we concerned about. I don’t think that is fair. Everything they robbed from him, down to his passport and nothing we got back. We need for them to look into it. Those people treat us like dogs. If they come to Belize we won’t do them that. We are not happy with this at all.”
A memorial service for Reth Reyes will be held tomorrow.
