And that kind of inner city violence is just what the CDYP is fighting against. Earlier we told you that last night’s murder victim was one of the young men they were trying to make an intervention of behalf of. Undeterred by that loss today they took another group to Crooked Tree. Director Edward Broaster told us what it’s about.
Edward Broaster, CYDP Director
“We have 30 young persons going to the village of Crooked Tree on a community service project because we want to show the young persons the setting of what village life is all about as well as try to establish some civic pride in them and teaching them about the environment and how to take care of the environment. So they will be going to Crooked Tree to do some community service work along with the village council of Crooked Tree.
The success that we’ve had Jules is to show our young persons that Belize City is not the end all. There are opportunities outside of Belize City and there are good ways of living as well outside of Belize City. And the way people strive and work for a living is a success unto itself.”
