And from the story someone who “made it rain”, to the continuing saga of the folks at Moneygram who were allegedly holding unto to so much cash that they easily could have. Today, twenty three year old Athlee Matute, a messenger of Moneygram, a money transfer company owned by the Coye family, has been charged with laundering of $1.5 million. The money was found at the Coye’s residence located at 12 Johnson Street, on December 31, 2008.
Matute was arraigned on the charge today in the #2 Magistrate’s Court. No plea was taken because the case will be tried on indictment as directed by the DPP. Magistrate Dorothy Flowers offered him bail of $50,000 despite submissions from Dickie Bradley to get a smaller bail. Matute has become the seventh person to be charged with the same offence.
The others are Michael Coye, his wife Marlene, their children Melonie and Jude, Melonie’s husband, James Gerou, and Ernest Raymond Jr. Matute was also represented by attorneys Arthur Saldivar and Anthony Sylvester Jr.
