Police today formally charged the man who they believed killed Ella Mae Bennett. It is the same man we first showed and told you about on Monday, 48 year old Edward Bulwer (Buller). He was today charged with murder for sadistically killing and raping Bennett. Her partially nude and decomposing body was found on the verandah of an unoccupied house on Monday afternoon. That same house #33 Central American boulevard is the address he uses. She was last scene alive in the company of Bulwer – who also goes by the name Pleck.
He has also been charged with committing a mischievous act since when he was apprehended on Monday - he told police that his name was Mark McDonald. But while he was in the lockdown at the Magistrate’s Court, Bulwer said that police had beaten a confession out of him. He said that they punched out several of his teeth and they pushed a piece of stick down his throat. “I could not endure the torture,” he said.
Buller was remanded to the Hattieville Prison until his next court appearance on July 23.
