Earlier we told you about this morning’s press conference by doctors from the KHMH who provided proof of what they allege is evidence of corruption at the hospital. The union has demanded the suspension and possible termination of the KHMH’s CEO Dr. Francis Longsworth, the Board Chairman Dr. Ricardo Fabro, and Director of Finance Carlos Perrera. They weren’t available for an interview but late this evening they responded with a video press release in which Board Secretary Laura Longsworth called the allegations unsubstantiated and called the union to the negotiating table. Here is an excerpt.
Laura Longsworth, Secretary - KHMH Board
“Members of the KHMH Authority understand that the BMDU held another press conference this morning reiterating once again a series of unsubstantiated allegations against members of the management and the board. With due consideration to the integrity of the process of responsible negotiation and with respect to the office of the Minister of Labour, the board feels that it absolutely necessary to present clarifications to some of the points raised.
Since last week there has been series of unsubstantiated allegations made against members of the board and the management of the hospital. To the date the board has not received any written correspondence from the union on these matters.
The only information received regarding these allegations has unfortunately been those aired in the media by the media. We have been seeking to meet with the executive of the union without success. Despite all this, investigations were immediately implemented. Preliminary investigations by representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the office of the Auditor General have not substantiated any of the allegations to date. A rapid analysis expected from them by the end of the week. Members of the board and management have been vilified in the eyes of the public without due process and without waiting for the outcome of any reasonable investigation of the facts. We greatly regret the complete unfounded damage to the professional reputation of the institution, management, and staff of the hospital.”
The MOU which the union outlined this morning – was originally supposed to have been introduced at a meeting on Monday. It wasn’t because CEO Longsworth and Chairman Fabro were present.
