Two people drowned in Orange Walk in less than 24 hours. The first to die wasn’t even a man - he is three year old Joshua Axel Esquivel. He lives in Orange Walk Town but died in the village of San Roman where he along with his family were enjoying a day at the riverside. A family member told us that Joshua had already changed his clothes to leave the riverside which is when he went missing. Detective Corporal Jeffrey Williams is the lead investigator.

DC Jeffrey Williams, Orange Walk Police
“They saw three year old Joshua Axel Esquivel lying motionless on a bed. The other Jessica Esquivel, 30, reported that she went with her son swimming in the Rio Hondo River on the 28th Sunday. About 4 pm the boy went under and never resurfaced. He was retrieved by family and friends. His body also was transported to the KHMH morgue.”

A post mortem conducted this afternoon certified little Joshua’s cause of death as drowning.
