And about 20 hours after Joshua drowned, there was another drowning in Orange Walk. It occurred late this morning in Trial Farm Village. The victim was 27 year old Jose Rivas. This sister in law Mythra Rivas told us about the frantic search that ended two hours later when his body was pulled out of the New River.
Mythra Rivas, Relative of Deceased
“They told us he was drinking around the river with some friends. At about 11 o’clock and he got cut so he saw a skiff coming down the river and he wanted to get a ride on the skiff so the boater told him they wouldn’t give him the ride because he had already cut himself. They told him to go to the hospital because he was bleeding a lot but he was very drunk. He was so drunk that they say he was on the side and he dropped in the water and from there they couldn’t get him.”
Keith Swift,
How long did it take for them to find him?
Mythra Rivas,
“About two hours.”
No foul play is suspected but that will be ruled out following a post mortem scheduled for later this week.
