And while Ayuso’s suicide is an open and shut case, tonight more questions than answers continue to swirl around the death of 17 year old Kevin Francis Jex. His decomposing body was found hanging from a railing of the Belize Tourism Industry Association’s office by employees yesterday morning. An onsite post mortem certified the cause of death as hanging. His family however believes he was murdered which is why his mother is speaking out tonight. The family says they’ve received information that not only was Kevin Francis Jex murdered – but that police officers were involved. It is a wild accusation but one the family believes.

“Kevin is not somebody to think those kinds of way. Yes I understand that the police are trying to say it is because me and he have a misunderstanding the morning, he went and heng himself. But Kevin, we always been through that same situation because I was scolding him about the way of how he was going
with his life and he didn’t like it. But everytime at the end of the day Kevin usually comes back and we would make up back and things go back to normal.
But when I went to view the body yesterday and the way how I see Kevin, Kevin didn’t look like nobody who hanged himself because of the way his hands were stretched out to his side and his fingers were curled up and it is like he had dirt underneath his fingernails, his foot bottom black like he was running, and the way how one of his foot was cocked up was like he was trying to shield from something. Nobody who hanged themselves would look like that.
I think if somebody hanged themselves their hands would be to their sides and their tongue would be coming out of their mouth and probably they would have stool themselves or whatever. Kevin didn’t have none of those signs and he had some bruises on his skin. And actually Dr. Estradabran had some children lift up Kevin body, to just look at it and when you looked you saw the blood on the place where Kevin was.”

“I am very disappointed in Dr. Mario Estradabran because he did a less than five minutes post mortem or what he called post mortem and that is not a post mortem personally in my point of view because I had to witness it. He turned Kevin over and looked, lift up his shirt, looked at his back, looked behind his head and he said he saw no stab wound, no gunshot wound, and this is hanging, that is what he said because he said he saw the, because remember when the police cut the cord from around his neck, I won’t say cut him down because he was already on the ground when they found standing up, just the cord was wrapped around his neck and attached to the neck and so I am saying that Kevin personally, from the family point of view Kevin did not kill himself and I am saying if the police are involved this is nonsense and I believe that somebody who knows and who has family like I said over and over need to come out and say something and this needs to stop because the family cannot take it and we will not let it go unsolved. We will do, I personally as Kevin’s uncle will do my own investigation.”
Police Pathologist Dr. Mario Estradabran conducted an onsite post yesterday and classified the death as due to hanging.
