On February 19th we told you about the arrest of alleged drug trafficker Carlos Gibson – who was found in a vehicle with 20 kilos of cocaine expertly concealed in the lining of the pan. As is the case with all drug traffickers, he was remanded without bail. Well, today he got bail of $100,000 which is one of the most expensive bails we’ve ever reported on – tied with former Prime Minister Said Musa when he was accused of the theft of $20 million. According to court reports, Gibson has met that bail and was released from prison.
Gibson, a resident of the Corozal District was intercepted at a police checkpoint which had been set up just for him after he left Benque Viejo, reportedly on his way from Melchor. Police searched his vehicle for hours but could not find any drugs; they even sent to Belmopan for a drug sniffing dog which also found nothing. But they persisted and eventually found the drugs concealed in the lining underneath the pan of the pickup truck.
