A Belize Defense Force Soldier is in jail after he was busted off duty with a single live round of 5.56 ammunition. 24 year old BDF Corporal Dennis Ireland was searched while in the cell block at the Queen Street Police Station on March 27th. He was off duty after returning from training camp but had been detained as part of an investigation into a report of aggravated assault. Police say that in addition to the 5.56 round of ammunition they also found 27 expended 7.62 shells in his back pocket. Corporal Ireland pleaded not guilty. No bail was offered because the offense involved a firearm related offense. He was remanded into custody until April 29th.
