And we end tonight on a light note –by introducing you to a group of young iguana and crocodile hunters. They live on the south side but go hunting for these reptile delicacies on the north side. And that is just where they were coming from when we met them yesterday with two prized catches in their hands.
Dennis Sutherland, Iguana Hunter
“One man climb the tree, shake it down and then we catch it.”
Keith Swift,
“What will you do with these?”
Bobby Mansurey, Iguana Hunter
“Sell it or eat it.”
Dennis Sutherland,
“The lady one has in eggs. Man got this, all of these, like corn and the ladies don’t have any. We found it out on our own.”
Keith Swift,
“How much money you expect to get for this?”
Bobby Mansurey,
“Get $15 for this and $10 for this one.”
They brag that they caught a 4 foot crocodile on Sunday which they sold for $80. And we stress that iguana hunting is a prohibited practice; the animals are protected under Belize’s wildlife preservation laws and those who seek to hunt it must get a permit.
