And while police were busy clearing their investigative docket, armed robbers were busy with crime. This afternoon at around 1:00, Police were called to St. Martin's De Porres Primary School on Partridge Street where armed men robbed the principal's office. According to staffers, parents, and students the group of three had been circling the school all day. And then at around one they came in across the football field which is behind the main building. They crept up the stairs and pounced on the staff in the main office. They also reportedly choked a parent who was in the office. The robbers got an easy "in" because the School and church compound take up the whole block and about 60% of it is un-fenced. So while the front gate is manned by a school warden, the rest of the compound is open and vulnerable.
Now who robs a school, right? And especially one of the poorest in the city. Well, they chose this one because today was set aside for new registration. All parents had to pay eighty five dollars to register children who will be attending school in the new year. The thieves got off with an undisclosed sum.
And while that happened this afternoon, this morning at the Bowen and Bowen Depot on Slaughterhouse road, it was an even more organized operation as a trio of robbers pulled up in a car just as the sprawling compound was opening at 8:30. They parked strategically to facilitate a quick escape and two of the men then went inside and robbed the employees of an undisclosed sum. The facility is an open one very vulnerable to attack. Bowen and Bowen executives say they may have to revise security measures.
