A jury of 6 men and 3 women deliberated for almost 3 hours today before it found 19 year old Glenford Diego guilty of the attempted murder of 33 year old mark Sacassa who was shot around 5:40 PM on November 15th 2007. The jury's verdict was unanimous. The trial judge, Justice Adolph Lucas, has defended sentencing until Friday July 30th, in order to give Diego, who was not represented by an attorney, time to prepare a plea for mitigation. Sacassa, a taxi driver, testified that Diego, his relative, shot him in his left elbow and thigh as he entered his yard on Rivero Street. He said he fell to the ground and got up and ran to a nearby house for refuge. Sacassa said he saw Diego shortly before the shooting making circles on his bicycle at the corner of Rivero Street and Rivero Street Extension. He said he has known Diego for 12 years and ge positively identified Diego as the person who shot him. Diego gave a statement from the dock in which he said he was in Dangriga when the incident occured. Crown Council Yohhanhseh Cave represented the prosecution.
