Four persons, three of them adults and one of them a 17 year old minor were charged in connection with robberies which occurred at Brodies Agro Chemicals, located at mile one and a half on the Northern Highway, around 4:05 P.M on Friday, July 23rd. The adults are 35 year old Edward Usher, 47 year old Gerald Jones and 48 year old Godwin Silas. Usher and the minor were charged with 5 counts of robbery. All four were charged with keeping firearm without a gun license, keeping ammunition without a gun license and 6 counts of handling stolen goods.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were arraigned in Magistrate Court. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser explained to them that the court cannot offer them bail because of the nature of the offences. She remanded them into custody until September 9th. Thirty two year old Silvenio Hernandez, supervisor at Brodies Agro Chemicals, reported to the police that was inside his office along with his co-worker, Michelle Figueroa, when a tall man entered and ordered them to be still. Hernandez said shortly afterwards another person entered holding two security guards, Dunstan Hall and Roy Bradley at gunpoint. Hernandez said the gunman and his accomplice ordered them to lie on the floor then they stole two thousand, one hundred and sixty five dollars and fifty five cents from a black cash pan. Hernandez said the culprits also robbed four of them of their belongings.
According to Hernandez, before they left the robbers told them to remain on the floor and count from one to a hundred. The police responded quickly to the report and they intercepted a Toyota Van on Mahogany Street in front of the police substation. The police reported that all four defendants were in the van they found all the stolen items - including a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition.
