Twenty-three year old Guatemalan National Manuel De Jesus Gomez, charged with attempted murder and dangerous harm, was freed of both charges when they were dismissed today in the #1 Magistrate's Court.

Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie dismissed the charges on a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl Lyn Vidal.

The charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence. But Gomez still has two other charges, grievous harm, and use of deadly means of harm, which he has to answer to. The trial for these charges will be done summarily.

The four charges arose from a stabbing incident which occurred on the night of September 19, 2009, on North Front Street near the Swing Bridge.

The complainant, Clive Hyde reported to the police that he and Gomez had a misunderstanding and Gomez stabbed him in his abdomen.
