Twenty five year old Pakistani National Mohammed Faisal, charged with drug trafficking for 79.9 grams of cannabis that was found under his mattress, was acguitted of the charge yesterday in the Magistrate's Court. Faisal testified that he knew nothing about the cannabis and that he was not in the apartment when the police found the cannabis. Faisal's attorney, Hubert Elrington submitted that Faisal's brother-in-law had threatened to have Faisal deported to Pakistan and that Faisal was set up. Elrington said that there was no evidence before the court to show that Faisal was involved in drug trafficking and the police who found the cannabis were not members of the Anti-Drug Unit. In her summation of the case Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser said she found it strange that the police knew exactly where the cannabis was and that the police had lied about Faisal being at the apartment when the cannabis was found. The incident occurred around 9pm on May 9, 2010. The police, acting on the strength of a search warrant went to Faisal's apartment at 1838 Chancellor Drive and found the cannabis in a black plastic bag.
