Last night we told you that the Gang Suppression Unit had intercepted two well-known southside figures in separate arrests on Sunday morning. The first was 29 year old Jermaine Garnett known as Horse who was caught with half pound of marijuana and 39 year old Elvis Bevans known as Hooligan, who was caught with an unlicensed firearm two and a half hours later.
Police have linked both men to allied gangs, Garnett with Southside Gangsters and Bevans with Kraal Road.
But that wasn't the only GSU bust in the area, Police also took this high powered rifle off the streets. It's a Remington 700 rifle with scope - basically a sharpshooter's rifle. According to police, it was found around 2:00 pm in an open lot on Rivero Street- which is right next to Kraal Road.
The rifle was found along with a plastic bottle with 65 rounds of.223 ammunition for the same gun. Also found were five nine millimeter rounds and fifteen.22 rounds.
And while it's the first time we've seen a weapon like that taken off the streets - the GSU wasn't done. At about 2:30 another search in an abandoned lot in the Jane Usher Boulevard area turned up a sack with over nine pounds of marijuana.

Police say that all found properties were the property of the South Side Gang and its affiliates the Jane Usher Boulevard and Kraal Road gang.
We should note that often times when prize weaponry and wholesale drug stashes like these are found "in an open lot" - really it's been turned in, or pointed to by an underworld figure in exchange for some kind of amnesty from prosecution, or some kind of deal.
The GSU assures us though that in this and every case - they don't negotiate with criminals - so no deals were made.
