Nineteen year old Brian Vasquez, a construction worker who allegedly tried to rape an 8 year old girl, was charged with burglary, attempted rape and aggravated assault.
Vasquez was arraigned today in the Magistrate's Court. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser explained to him that she will not take a plea because the offences are indictable. The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the offences have become prevalent and the complainant is only 8 years old.
Vasquez was unable to give a good reason why he should be granted bail so Senior Magistrate Fraser upheld the objection and remanded Vasquez into custody until August 30.
The incident occurred around 2a.m on June 5. The child reported to the police that she was awakened when she felt someone on top of her and shouted to her mother that "Bigs" was on top of her and she pushed him. She said Vasquez got on his knees and fondled her. She said Vasquez fled when her mother came into the room.
