Teen Boy Drowns Trying To Help Female

A teenager drowned this weekend in the Macal River after he went to help someone else who was drowning.

On Saturday morning, 16 year old San Ignacio Resident Christian Jimenez was swimming in the river with a young woman, Flor Barrientos. She began experiencing difficulties while swimming and Jimenez went to her aid. But he was pulled down under the currents and drowned.

Around 11:30 on Saturday morning, his body was found floating in Santa Elena Town about four hundred yards downstream from the temporary bridge that links San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns.
