There is another case to report tonight of an adult accused of inappropriately touching a minor. Thirty seven year old Lionel Waight, a boat captain of 15 Frederick Street was charged today with aggravated assault of an indecent nature when he appeared in the number one Magistrate's court.
The incident occurred on September 17th, when a 13 year old boy reported to police that he was walking on Eve street on his way home from school, when Waight approached him and touched his private part.
Waight pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the complainant is a student who is familiar with the defendant, and there is a strong possibility that the defendant will interfere with him if granted bail, and that the offence has become prevalent, and that it is of a serious nature.
Waight was unable to give a good reason why he should be granted bail so Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith upheld the objection, and remanded him into custody until November 22nd.
