A Mexican student who is doing research at the Billy Barquiedier National Park was viciously chopped up during a robbery on Saturday.

Ivan Turrijo - who was staying in Steadfast village, was robbed of his laptop, cell phone and tablet on Saturday. But, the two robbers also chopped him twice to the back of his head, his shoulder and very nearly maimed him - by almost severing his forefinger. Turrijo suffered the injury to his hand when, in self defence, he tried to hold unto the machete. He was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital and has since been transferred to the KHMH.

The good news is that police have detained the two suspects who are also form steadfast village and they have recovered the laptop - and expect to get the other items by the end of the night. Police also commended the family of the two males who condemned the actions of their relatives. One of the suspects was turned in by his family, and the other, was held by his family until police came.
