Last week, the European Union blacklisted 30 so called tax-havens spread out across five continents. The list includes, Belize, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Montserrat, Panama, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Kitts and Nevis, Turks and Caicos, US Virgin Islands and many others which the Europeans say allow tax avoidance. It is one more mark against Belize's offshore sector but the Prime Minister says it's part of a greater plan to shut us down:..

Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister

"This is just a continuation of the kind of actions they've been taking over this period of years now stretching back to try to achieve the objective. What I saw, someone made the point that their own offshore jurisdictions Isle of Man. They've said nothing about them, so that is what is involved there. I have no doubt that sooner or later they will succeed, this is the empire striking back. But I think our offshore people have been preparing themselves for a while now because its been, as I've said a constant onslaught."
