He was been on remand for about 18 months, but today 38-year-old Anthony Bennett, aka “Money", sprinted away from the Supreme Court a free man. The DPP’s Office has decided to discontinue their prosecution against him for the 2018 murder of 30-year-old Erbin “Bing Garrido.
Viewers may remember that incident, which occurred on May 29th, 2018. At around 8 that night, Garrido was shot and killed while he was inside the living room of his house, which was located in the CET Site area of Belize City. He was inside the wooden structure when a lone gunman arrived. That assailant reportedly stood outside and fired a single gunshot from a “London Bridge that was at the entrance of his yard. The bullet penetrated the walls of the house, and fatally injured Garrido in the chest.
Police charged Bennett for the crime almost a year later, and when his trial was supposed to start today, Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell told the court that the crown will not proceed with the case. She told Justice Colin Williams that the crown was entering a “nolle pros against Bennett. The reason for that is that the main witness couldn’t be found, despite several attempts to locate him.
After that, the judge informed Bennett that he was free to leave, and as soon as he exited the court, he made a mad dash through the Battlefield Park. He was represented by attorney Leslie Hamilton.
