Belize City Police also had to respond yesterday to a stabbing incident on 1st Street in the Kings Park area.

At around 2:00 this morning, 60-year-old Alfonso Mario Ayuso, a shop owner was at his home socializing with a group of people when suddenly, they reportedly turned on him and tried to rob him.

In that attempt, he was stabbed to the face, and he had to draw his licensed firearm to defend himself. He fired one shot at his attackers, but they managed to escape after injuring him.

"Alfonso Ayuso, 60 years-old, reported that he was hanging out with 2 male persons and 2 females at his store, at #4 First Street, Belize City, when, at some point, 2 of the male persons attacked him, and demanded money from him. One of the male persons inflicted stab wounds to his face and chest. Thereafter, Ayuso pulled out his licensed 9mm pistol and fired a shot toward them, and they fled from the area. Police are seeking about 4 persons in connection with this report."

Today, we approached Ayuso's wife for comment, but she declined.
