And, living under the threat of armed, dangerous and desperate runaways is something that Hattieville residents know all about.

Being the community closest to the prison has put them right in the path of these escapees who are seeking shelter, food, and valuables - one of them even asked a Hattieville resident for a phone call!

Today, we spoke to the village charlady about what it's like living under this very present danger. Sylvanna Barrow has told residents to lock up early and not to send children on the streets alone.

Sylvanna Barrow - Chairperson, Hattieville

"When I talked to the inspector this morning, he said they gone in last night gone give in themselves at the police station."

"So, what's the mood in Hattieville are people scared?"

Sylvanna Barrow

"Yes, people are afraid bad, the kids are afraid to go to shop, they lock up early, myself I am afraid because you know the prison is right at Hattieville and when you hear 28 inmate escaped, everybody got afraid. So, they call me, so much villagers call me and when they call me all that I do is call the station and I ask the inspector to please go and patrol around the area. They got several of them because they hear the prisoners are more over that side by old Hattieville."

Cherisse Halsall

"So, you haven't been able to give any assurances to these villagers about how they should protect themselves?"

Sylvanna Barrow

"Lock up early, if you need to go to shop, get what you need from early, lock up, secure your house and no send your kids on the street because they say these men are armed and dangerous."
