Orange Walk Town Councillor Haresh Vaswani is under scrutiny again tonight - and that's because news just surfaced today that he was convicted of a curfew violation 9 days ago.

7News has learned that on October 20th, Vaswani was found guilty of failing to comply with restrictions of movements outside of curfew. He was fined 1,500.00 at Orange Walk Magistrate's Court.

The others in his group who were charged with him pled guilty, while he did not. Now sometimes when the court gets three guilty pleas it may drop the charge against the other accused.

But in this case, it did not; the charge went to trial and the town councillor was found guilty and fined, along with the others.

The conviction dates back to a curfew violation on April 25th when Vaswani was allegedly found out with a group after curfew hours.

As we have reported, recent pictures and videos have alleged that he was partying in a group in the last few weeks against quarantine regulations - but Vaswani has said that the videos are old - and only date back to February 2020, the month before COVID arrived in Belize.

Yesterday, in the flurry of a controversy, he was briefly suspended from holding portfolios at the town council and then re-instated within an hour after the Mayor Kevin Bernard says he proved that the videos were old.
