And from fixing crowded buses to fixing streets, the Belize City Council is at it again when the renovation of Duck Lane - the street that connects Church Street and Water Lane. For years the street remained in a deplorable state but as part of Citco's promise to revitalize the city, they tackled the small, narrow, but quote heavily trafficked street.
Mayor Bernard Wagner tooted the council's horn today by reminding the public that these infrastructural projects are ongoing despite the struggles of Covid-19.

Bernard Wagner - Mayor, Belize City "This street yah has been an area where a lot of the dalla vans, community uses this area here to traffic and load and unload passengers from all over the southside part of the city and it has been a deplorable condition for years. Again, we are about the people and we felt compelled to ensure that we are able to pave this street here, cement it so that it is easily accessible and gives a smooth ride for those pedestrians trafficking along with the dalla vans. So, it's essentially quality of life, safety of residents again, smoother ride, that is all in what we perceive this project to be. If you notice it runs on an incline so that the water runs on one side and then it connects to the drain on Church Street and Orange Street, so you shouldn't expect any flooding in this area because the street was built on an incline. As you know, we have been saying in the media for some that we will do some number of streets. It has been slowed down significantly due to COVID, but we have never stopped doing streets. We have done over 25 streets and we continue to do streets, you see the Yarborough, you see the Tigris streets, you see Raccoon Street, Nurse Seay, all of those streets have been rehabilitated. We are in a covid situation and if a council can maintain the salary of the staff and still do infrastructure works, that speaks a lot for the financial position of this council and I will continue to harp it that we do not have the resources the other council had, you cannot be comparing two years and twelve years, that's like fifteen percent of the time that council was in play. Let's be real and be fair."
Mayor Wagner said there are more streets in the pipeline to be fixed.
