And while floods won't stop this year's general elections, neither will a home invasion according to PUP candidate Marconi Leal.
In a press release today, he informed the constituents of Belize Rural North that his work continues leading up to the general elections. The release also says, quote, "none of their family members received any major physical injuries and are now recuperating from the emotional toll caused by the incident. The family also expresses its discontent with the politicization of this criminal act and disassociates itself from any allegation that has arisen on social media and any other media platforms." End quote. This, of course contradicts what Leal himself told one media house when he said that he feels he was the target- and that they were waiting for him.
For Belize Rural North - this act will go down in the books as just one more outlandish and extreme event in a charged political atmosphere.
Back in 2004, Leal's political opponent, Edmund Castro, claimed he was targeted when ten of his sheep were viciously killed in Maskall. He believed that someone was sending him a message.
And then, In 2010, Castro was targeted again when the head of a slaughtered pig was found on his secretary's desk. He blamed his then opponent, Arthur Saldivar, for that incident, but Saldivar denied any involvement.
