In our first segment we showed you the Macal River and what it's doing in San Ignacio - well, a little bit further west, the Mopan River was also in flood stage.
It's caused havoc in the western village of Succotz, stranding residents and devastating upriver farms. But even in adversity, some continue to thrive. Cherisse Halsall saw a bit of that in Succotz. Here's her story:
Succotz's Mopan River is impassable and when we got there even the famous Ferry to Xunantunich was being secured

George Thompson - Associate Director for Park Management, I.C.A "We had three cables on this ferry and we have released two already but as the river continue rising, we are very much aware of the debris coming downstream, so we're releasing the 3rd cable but that is attached to the ferry, that is secured on the banks and with our 24 hour monitoring as the river rises, we adjust our tensioners and as it recedes we release them to make sure the ferry stays afloat."
Cherisse Halsall "We're hearing about residence that live on the other side being stranded. What would be some of your advice?"
George Thompson "We saw some individuals trying to cross at this end and I would very much caution that if you're on the other side, head to higher ground and wait it out, do not attempt to cross, 2 individuals tried to cross a little bit earlier and they were washed downstream - they are safe but it's not advisable to try, whether it's by trying to swim across or by canoe, I would advise everybody if you're on the other side, stay put and head to higher grounds until the water recedes."
And there are serious safety concerns guarding human life even if the same hasn't been done for livestock.

Wilson Pat - Villager "In the areas more up we have farms and it was a scenery here of seeing chicken, pigs, even horses floating down but it's because they living up in Guatemala more like farm and people are doing their farming and because of this weather, everything is going high and it's washing away everything. Because of Eta going around, it is very dangerous, the river does swell a lot, hopefully it doesn't come out like previous years ago."
But it's not all bad News, because down by the river in Benque we found some flood time fishermen

Andy Mo - Resident, Succotz "Once the flood comes in, you know sometimes they have some farms that have some fishponds and thing and sometimes when it overfloods then fish come down and my friends are taking advantage of that. Once the river comes out it will affect a lot of people and it affects a lot of people that live beside the river. Hopefully the river goes down and no bad casualties happen right but they have a lot of people with their families that are really close to the river, like my buddy yonder right, Mr you can't fight against weather right, you can't fight against nature."
