As we showed you earlier, one man who is tonight deeply concerned with water safety is Mayor Earl Trapp. This morning as he waded through downtown floodwaters, he told us he doesn't expect them to fully subside in time for the election.

But what does that mean for voter turnout? Speaking to the mayor we wondered if stranded and sheltered residents will be ready and willing to come out and cast their ballots. That's the question we put to him this afternoon.

Earl Trapp - Mayor, San Ignacio and Santa Elena "I don't see business go back to normal before next weekend or probably the following Monday. This morning I had a little conversation with a couple people from the town council regarding that as well and definitely, it will affect the turnout and definitely, it will depend on the two political parties to do what they can to bring out the people because definitely some people will be inconvenienced by the weather, by flooding and won't be able to come out, so we will have to do our part to do everything to mobilize them, whether it be vehicle, it has to be by vehicle but others has to be by boat than a vehicle but definitely, it will affect the turnout for sure. Anyone walking out here can be possibly infected with COVID-19 virus, so all I can say is that we all will have to take extreme precaution and I would like to advice everyone to come out and exercise your sacred right and when you do so, just come, cast your ballot and go back home, don't linger around. The less people clustering, the less chances we have of spreading the virus, so it's a concern it's something we have to live with for now."

As we've told you COVID positive patients will not be allowed to vote.
