Last night, we told you about the Corozal residents: 30-year-old Carlo Moreno, 33-year-old Nina Moreno, 28-year-old Francis Gentle, 29-year-old Elsa Echeverria, and 54-year-old Delcia Daniels. Police say that they were all inside a vehicle that was being used to smuggle 7 pounds of marijuana on Election Day.

They were arraigned today in Belmopan before Magistrate Usher on the offense of possession of a controlled drug with the intent to supply. Moreno was also arraigned on a separate charge of attempting to corrupt a public officer.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges, and they were offered bail in the sum of $2,000 each. As part of their bail conditions, they must report to the Corozal Police Station Every Friday until their case is completely disposed of. They were represented in today's court hearing by attorney Hurl Hamilton

As we told you, police were on high alert on Election Day. So, when they arrived at the checkpoint between miles 38 and 39 on the George Price Highway, police stopped and search the black Ford Explorer SUV they were in.

That search led the officers to find 3 parcels of marijuana in a spare tire and 3 more in the panel of the left passenger door. The cops said that all the drugs had a total weight of 3.146 kilos.

The cops also say that while Carlo Moreno was being escorted to the police station, he attempted to bribe an officer with $1,500. That's why they charged him with the additional offense of attempting to corrupt a public officer.
