Three hours before this latest murder, the Commissioner was on a walkabout in the same area - after a murder last night.
That's where we met him to ask what his department is doing to quell this latest flare-up in tensions between the two major gangs in the area.
Cherisse Halsall:
"Gang warfare raging in Martin's Lake I area in a dispute between BLC and PIV two dead in as many days and another man shot in the area. What measures are police taking to stop the cycle of retaliation?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well let me first and foremost offer our condolences of those who have fallen victims to recent spate of gun violence in the Martin's area. From a law enforcement standpoint there is a lot that we need to do and I want to assure the public that we will do what needs to be done. I'm not going to go into full specifics in terms of what our plan of action is going to be to address the issue but those persons who are involved in the recent gang warfare need to understand and need to get the message that they are not going to be allowed to hold the masses of our country or the masses of the people of St. Martin's hostage. The police will be in the Martin's area executing operations on a daily basis and going after those persons who we believed are involved."
"As you can see I am with Mr. Nuri and Ms. Westby. The reason for that is because they too are apart of what we want to do moving forward. It is not that every so-called member in Martin's area are a part of what is happening. There are some who really are trying to hold the peace and so Mr. Nuri and Ms. Westby are going to work with those people and those who are adamant about disrupting the peace then they are going to feel the wrath of the police. They have to get the message, they have to understand that people need to live in peace and if they cannot live in peace like every other person then they need to go to prison where they belong."
