And last night when the police arrived in Cherrington's neighbourhood - they were met with gunshots and projectiles form this embattled gang territory.
The forced to police to retreat and go for their Riot squad shields as protection. The commissioner narrated that dangerous encounter when we met him in the area earlier today.
Cherisse Halsall:
"So is it down to the murder of Mr. Cherrington Sir why the GSU and the Riot squad were sent into this area last night?"

"The Riot squad was not tin the area last night, what happened was that when the police came out last night to deal with the situation, because after the shooting of Cherrington and the fact that there were spates of shooting, I directed certain operations to take place in the Martin's area and police came out to execute those operations and in the process of doing so the missiles were hurdled at the police and so in the process the police brought out the riot shield just to protect themselves from the missiles that were being hurled at them. So it's not per se that the riot squad were deployed last night, no they were not the riot squad."
