Woman In South Beaten With Hammer

And now, onto more somber news a woman is currently recovering after she was beaten with a hammer by her common-law husband. The 28-year-old from Alta Vista Village in Stann Creek District reported to police that on December 23 at around 3:30 am, she and her husband, 34-year-old Joel Baldarez, got into an argument. It was then that Baldarez picked up a hammer and inflicted severe injuries to her head and face, resulting in gross disfigurement. Baldarez was later picked up by police, and has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison since December 31.
