On September 21, 2019, Elmer Chub perished inside an apartment in Caye Caulker. Reports say a tenant in the building had left a candle burning and that caused the fire which led to Chub's death.
Today, police charged the man who allegedly lit that candle. 23-year-old Ervin Torres, a Farmer of Chunox village in Corozal was charged with causing death by careless conduct in death of Elmer Chub.
He appeared before Magistrate Khadeen Palmer in Court #6 today where he was read the single indictable offense of causing death by caress conduct. No plea was taken and he was granted bail of $8,000 dollars.
His next court date is set for May 13, 2021 in Caye Caulker.
