And while that cop is in for a reprimand, many others coming up behind him are just hoping to be admitted as members of the force.
And 1000 of them may just get that chance, that's the number that managed to pass their entrance exam. We saw a large group of them at the academy today as they sat patiently waiting for the interview portion of their application.
This morning we asked the commissioner about the rest of the process and just how he plans to whittle 1000 hopefuls down the 225 new recruits.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We have finally corrected all the exam papers, that is 2,700 plus and we have a number of passes. I think it is a little over 1,000 of those persons who were successful in the exam and so what we commence today is bringing those persons who were successful on the exam to the academy to undergo an interview, and so today we're dealing with Orange Walk and Corozal because we don't want to have too many people on the compound, again we still have to ensure that we adhere to the covid 19 protocols and so again the interviews are the second stage of the elimination and then those persons who are successful with the interviews will

move onto the third stage of elimination which is going to be the vetting and then from the vetting we'll eliminate further and then we'll go the medical and then from the medical we eliminate and we come out with our final list. So we're hoping that by the third week in February we'll be ready with our final list but again that is going to depend on the assistance that we can get from the Central Medical Lab in Belize City hat would normally do the medical for us but as you know it's the same lab that does the COVID-19 test so I'm sure that the COVID-19 is going to be a priority over us but we are going to see if they can work with us the best they can to ensure that our list can be out within a reasonable time."
Williams also told us that he plans to have a stand-by list to replace those recruits that can't hack it or choose to leave the academy during the 3-month training period.
