Well-known and often-targeted gang figure Jervis Diamond Valencia was shot last week - and tonight his cousin has been charged for it.
And this morning Supt Hilberto Romero said the shooing occurred in the Mayflower area.
Supt. Hilberto Romero

"Reference the shooting of Jervis Diamond that occurred Tuesday, we have since arrested and charged Kareem Kelly, 21 years of Mayflower for the crimes of dangerous harm, attempt murder and use of deadly means of harm. This is a shooting that occurred in the Mayflower area and this is as a result of internal fighting within that group of persons in that area."
In court, no plea was taken from Kelly who was unrepresented and due to the nature of the offense, he was denied bail and remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until March 29, 2021.
This morning in court Kelly told the court that his cousin wishes to drop the charges against him but would only be able to do so by video chat because he's in the hospital. The magistrate said that such a message would have to be conveyed through Diamond's attorney.
Police are moving to try and contain any retaliation since the warring factions are reportedly from the same neighborhood.
