And switching now to quarantine regulations updates, you no longer have to worry about being dragged to a cell block for not wearing a mask.
Now, it's still the law to wear a mask at all times in public but now the rules have changed and quarantine offenders won't be arrested they'll be ticketed instead.
It's still a $500.00 ticket but without the fear of imprisonment and the long wait at court. Here's how the commissioner says ticketing will be handled.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"For a breach of the curfew, a breach of the mask regulation and the social distancing regulation it is now a ticketed offense. And so we are in the process of preparing the tickets and we will be distributing the tickets countrywide for officers to issue to violators. The tickets, the person to whom a ticket is issued, will have fifteen calendar days to pay the ticket of five hundred dollars. Every day after the fifteenth day that the ticket remains unpaid, the ticket goes up by ten dollars. All other offenses under the regulations are arrest-able offenses for which the police will arrest and carry a maximum fine of a thousand dollars. Those are some of the salient features in the new regulations."
"If a person doesn't agree with the ticket or believe they may have some justification, the ticket goes with what is a referred to as a defendant's summons. At the bottom of the ticket, the police will write that out and will tell you if it is that you do not agree, the matter will go to the court and then you have a trial. But I believe the ticket is going to be more expedient and a person who knows he or she is wrong will just go and pay the ticket as opposed to going to court and clog up the court system. So going to pay the ticket is going to help tremendous in terms of easing the court from the responsibility from having to be dealing with so much persons who are being arrested for breach of regulations, so I think that it's a good thing."
