And while Escalante's roadside death shocked the nation, another more conventional highway demise led to widespread empathy and sorrow.

25-year-old Aretha Vanzie was the only passenger of a crashed vehicle to die from the injuries she sustained when the Chevy Impala careened off the Hummingbird Highway and crashed into a cement culvert.

Today the driver of that vehicle, 21-year-old Damian Usher has been served with a notice of intended prosecution pending the postmortem that was today conducted on the young woman's body. We heard more about this investigation from ACP Myvette.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head, NCIB
"In relation to that issue the postmortem is scheduled for later today, all those other persons involved in the traffic accident have since been released from the hospital, the driver has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution pending the postmortem results, and thereafter it is expected that charges will be levied against him."

"From what we are gathering it is believed to have been speeding but we are still investigating that angle of the incident. We know that the normal procedure was followed where Samples were taken from the driver upon him reaching the hospital."

Usher and his other passengers, 22-year-old Zane Zuniga, and 24-year-old Dion Castillo have all since been discharged from the hospital.
