Earlier this week, we told you about the strange attack on 64-year-old Roy Anthony Jervis, a resident on Vista Del Mar in Ladyville. On Tuesday night, 2 armed men approached him and reportedly informed him that they were sent to kill him, but that they decided to simply rob him instead. Tonight, there are 2 defendants on remand at the Belize Central Prison, because police have connected them to this crime.

They are 20-year-old Patrick Canelo, an unemployed resident of Ladyville, and a 17-year-old male minor. They were escorted today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford for the offense of robbery. The minor's mother and a social worker had to be present at today's arraignment.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge at their arraignment, and that's when Senior Magistrate Ford informed both of them that she cannot give them Magistrate's Court bail. She informed them they would have to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.

She adjourned their case until April 27th, and the police were about to escort the accused back to the court's holding cell when the minor's mother spoke up on his behalf. She told the court that the minor was in his bed at the time of this robbery and that he was innocent. Senior Magistrate Ford informed the minor's mother that she was offering evidence in his defense and that the court cannot make use of that evidence until the trial phase of this case.
