And while the UDP ended up on the defensive at its two hour plus press conference this evening - they planned to stay on the offensive, outlining, among other things, the party's plan to challenge the LEGITIMACY of the PUP's mayoral candidate, just days before the election.
On Monday afternoon, UDP Chairman Michael Peyrefitte and others will go before Justice Sonya Young. They will make a case as to why PUP Mayor Bernard Wagner should be disqualified from running for a second term in office in the Belize City Council Elections.
As we told you, Wagner is a resident of Los Lagos. That was is the address he put down on Nomination Day, and According to Chief Elections Officer, Josephine Tamai, the nomination was "rightly accepted". But the UDP disagree, and so, they are now launching an election petition against Wagner's candidacy.
Here's how attorney OJ Elrington framed it today:

OJ Elrington, UDP Candidate
"According to the law Bernard Wagner should be disqualified from being not only a candidate in this Belize City council election which comes up on March 3rd, but his entire candidacy, his entire election as the mayor of Belize City from 2018, he should be disqualified as well. Let me say why: On his very nomination application to be the mayor of Belize City he put his address that Bernard Wagner lives in Los Lagos, not in Belize City. However, if you live in Los Lagos you are not legally allowed to be a candidate in the Belize City election. Is that plain and simple and so we have filed a petition before the court, the court has accepted our petition and that petition will be heard on Monday March 1st and it is our hope and it is our belief that the court will find that Bernard Wagner should be disqualify as a candidate in the upcoming Belize City council election."
