And more than just doing that, they are also seriously messing with the UDP's head. The Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry suggested to Hugo Patt that since he had entered into a contract with the government to purchase the vehicle, and not disclosed this to the Governor General as required, that he could be disqualified form holding his seat in the house.

The media asked the UDP chairman Michael Peyrefitte if this was a legitimate claim - and he took the usual self deprecating approach:

Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Chairman
"If he believes that is the case, I am sure the PUP would have made an application long time ago for that disqualification. So let's see what they do. If he believes that he has ground to disqualify the member for Corozal North well let's see what they bring. Whatever they bring, we would defend, because then I wouldn't know on what basis. Minister is not the first member of parliament to purchase an item from the government. In 2008 several government ministers bought vehicles and all of that including the current deputy prime minister. I would be disqualified myself because I bought chair for my sexyness, so I would be disqualified too. So I would like to know on what basis he would make that statement. But I am sure he was just trying to rattle the member for Corozal North who was as usual cool as a cucumber."

Peyrefitte also points out that the disqualification question is also a non starter because at the time there was no parliament; It was dissolved.
