This morning, the media asked the Police Commissioner for his perspective on this incident which is the latest source of public embarrassment for the department. He said that the conduct of the Gamboa brothers is not the kind of behavior that the police wants to promote:
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"I must say that the video is pretty much disheartening, to say the least. The conduct depicted in that video footage is not what we promote as a law enforcement organization. And when we see members of our organization acting in such a way, it is surely concerning to us. And so, I have directed the Professional Standards Branch to look into that matter, and both police officers will be dealt with. I must say that if you were to check your archives, you'll see that PC Gamboa has constantly been a pain in the butt. And something needs to be done. I don't think his behavior is compatible with that of a police officer's behavior."
Our archives indicated that back in January 2018, both brothers were freed of grievous harm charges when their accuser showed up at Magistrates Court to tell the sitting magistrate that he no longer wanted court action against them. PC Kenrick Gamboa was additionally charged with aggravated assault with a firearm for that incident, which was also dropped.
