Last night, you heard the Police Commissioner's stern warning to the public, making it clear that you can only socialize with your family or those who live in the same house as you.
Police will be out to strictly enforce the COVID regulations because the authorities are trying to make sure the Easter Holiday celebrations don't become a catalyst for a COVID third wave. During yesterday's conversation with the ComPol, the press asked about the other traditional, Easter policing strategies - like. Highway patrols.
The Commissioner said that while those have to be scaled back due to other priorities, you should still expect to encounter checkpoints if you're traveling this weekend:
Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police "The safety on our highways, both in terms of preventing traffic accidents as well as to prevent those who may wish to use the highways as a means of committing criminal activities. And so, maintaining a presence on the highways is of paramount importance. So, while we may not be able to meet the level of deployment that we usually have on the highways, we're still going to ensure that we do have a police presence in the form of our highway patrols, and periodic checkpoints in different, key areas of the highways. We have seen, over the past 2 to 3 weeks, an increase in traffic accidents as well, and this something that we're guarding against. I want to again advise motorists that you know when you're on the highways with your families, you need to exercise extreme caution because we don't want a mishap to occur, and it would lead you to lose one or more than one of your loved ones. Driving with due care is important. I have always said to my driver when he's driving because sometimes drivers tend to think that having the right away saves your life. I would say to him, having the right away does not mean that if you crash, you're going to live. So, even though you know you have the right away, still exercise extreme caution."
