Orange Walk Police busted a man from Lords Bank Village who was trying to smuggle just under 39 pounds of marijuana.
Around 9 yesterday morning, a team of Special Ops officers was conducting a vehicle checkpoint at the Toll Bridge in Tower Hill Village in the Orange Walk. That's when a black Ford pick-up, heading out of Orange Walk Town, pulled up to the checkpoint. 30-year-old mechanic Jorge Amaliel Burgos was driving unaccompanied.
Police had intel and they searched the pickup where they found a hidden compartment concealed under the truck's pan.
When they opened it up, they found 28 parcels of suspected cannabis to a total amount of 17.686 kilograms - or 38.99 pounds.
Burgos, the vehicle, and the drugs were escorted to the police station, and he has since been arrested and charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another.
