And as the merriment of easter sets in one man who isn't happy is John Saldivar. That's after last night's episode of Jules Vasquez UNCUT where the former four term area Rep of Belmopan heard former supporter, Shyne Barrow says that perhaps he should bow out of politics.
It's not an admission that Shyne made willingly, only grudgingly making the concession after being called out on a cop-out. Here's that exchange.
Jules Vasquez "What role do you see for John Saldivar you supported him, you threw in your hat."
Hon. Shyne Barrow - Area Rep Mesopotamia "You know I was rehearsing this question, I was rehearsing this question in the vehicle and how I was going to answer this question."
Jules Vasquez "Does he have a role in the new UDP?"
Hon. Shyne Barrow "You know I believe that his position in the UDP should be determined by the people in Belmopan."
Jules Vasquez "The voters, but c'mon Shyne you just copped out, you completely copped out."
Hon. Shyne Barrow "The voters."
Jules Vasquez "The voters in Belmopan spoke, resoundingly."
Hon. Shyne Barrow "And I think we need to listen. But what I'm telling you is that they will have a convention, they will have a determination being made by the people."
Jules Vasquez "But Sir you are part of an organization that is recovering from a Metastasis of a malignant tumor."
Hon. Shyne Barrow "You know I feel very bad for John Saldivar, I feel sorry for him on the surface of it because I don't know what he has done to create the karma that he has suffered bit I feel bad for him because the type of defeat that he suffered is catastrophic and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. The way it happened, it really moved me, I almost cried for the man, I was one of the people that asked him to step down and for us to move forward and I felt terrible about that, so I take no joy in saying that John Saldivar needs to move on as a candidate for Belmopan but he has a lot of thoughts, he has a lot of ideas, if he can drum up the support of the people in the constituency, then that is for them to determine. I'm not in a position, the party leader and the executive, collectively we will have to decide based on what the people in the constituency say, who is good and who is not."
Saldivar made a Facebook post bright and early this morning saying that Shyne's comments broke what he calls "the Dean Lindo rule" - which states that one UDP should never speak ill of another.
Saldivar also said quote: "My experience with trying to be the classy team player has not been a good one and it's time for me to start standing up for myself even if it means taking on…a parliamentary member of my Party. That Shyne should suggest that I get out of politics as a consequence of my recent resounding defeat exposes his lack of knowledge and appreciation of history, especially my history." End quote.
Sounds a lot like Saldivar, despite his naysayers, and recent election results is still working on a comeback.
