And while the Ministry of Home Affairs is making moves in the City, it's also leading a shakeup of the South.
It's a response to two murders and a home invasion in PG,
one that prompted both the Minister and the Commissioner of Police to head down to Punta Gorda for a few days of community meetings.
We asked Musa what will be done differently in Belize's southernmost town.
Cherisse Halsall "I know you've been down south with the Commissioner, where there's been a minor spate of violence lately. What's that situation looking like on the ground in PG and what did you manage to find out?"
Hon. Kareem Musa - Minister of Home Affairs "The commissioner of police has been down south as you know we have been making some adjustments in terms of the OC at the Punta Gorda police station as well as the deputy OC, so we are making some changes down there to make it more community-oriented because there is the concern from members of the public at times they feel as if thought they are not getting the kind of response that they want from the police department, so we've listened to their concerns and we responding accordingly and making the requisite changes. In terms of the crime that was committed, I know that were two murders that were connected but there was also a home invasion and luckily in fact apprehended the culprits of the home invasion and recovered all the stolen jewellery in that particular home invasion, so that's a bit of good news. So, we are keeping a very close eye on it but at the same time we're listening to the concerns of the residents of Punta Gorda and we are making the requisite changes to ensure that they feel safe and secure in their community."
