There was a gun murder in Belize City on Friday evening. The victim is 43-year-old Kirk Francis Gordon, a resident of Kraal Road - who was a convicted killer.
At around 6:40 p.m., he was shot multiple times as he walked on Zacaranda street, behind the BWSL headquarters in the Lake Independence Area.
Police say that was sitting near a skiff on Zacaranda Street when a gunman caught him off guard. He ran, but collapsed and died a few feet away from the skiff.
This morning, the Head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch gave the press a short briefing on their investigation into this crime:
Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"On Friday the 14th day of May 2021 around 6:40 a.m. police responded to a shooting incident at Peter Seco Street in Belize City, upon their arrival, they found Kirk Gordon with several gunshot injuries. He was transported to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigation reveals that he was on the street sitting on a skiff when a male person came towards him and fired several shots in his direction causing his fatal injuries. We are seeking one person in regards to this investigation."
"We are looking at several factors and it might be some rivalry from persons within that area where he was."

Reporter:
"So it may be an internal...?"
Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"No, a rivalry he has with those persons from that area because he is from Kraal Road."
We approached Gordon's family for comment today, but they declined.
Of important note is that he is a former convict. In July of 2006, he was convicted of the 2003 murder of Arthur Ellis on Kraal Road.
The Privy Council later set aside that conviction and sentence and downgraded his conviction to manslaughter. When the case was remitted back to the Court of Appeal, he was handed a 15-year prison sentence which he served.
